Review – Steel Panther, ‘Balls Out’

Hedonistic 80’s metal titans, Steel Panther, are back and their balls are out.

‘Balls Out’ is a rip roaring 13 track offering, featuring lead single ‘If You Really Love Me’.

Just like debut, ‘Feel the Steel’, the format remains the same. Do what Crue, Poison, W.A.S.P. and Def Leppard did but get straight to the point, no innuendos, no double entendres, throw in a face melting solo and a stadium sized chorus; Thankfully the same songs aren’t wheeled out for another airing, very much a case of, if it’s not broke don’t fix it.

As expected there are clear nods to a cavalcade of cock rock bands (‘That’s What Girls Are For’ reeks of Warrant’s ‘Cherry Pie’ for example) but perhaps the biggest irony of the entire album is the fact that Steel Panther out-do (or out-Crue if you will) practically every 80’s metal band they parody.

Clearly this is a must-have for anyone into hair metal, and of course anyone with a healthy sense of humour.

Highlights include; ‘Just Like Tiger Woods’, ‘If You Really Love Me’, ‘Why Can’t You Trust Me’ (featuring the killer lyrics “Everybody knows that it was you, that blew Justin Bieber at the petting zoo”) and ‘I Like Drugs’
