The world renowned TJ’s of Newport is to be re-opened as a themed restaurant after commanding a £242,000 price tag at auction, it went on the market with Paul Fosh Auctions with a guide price of £175,000.

Mr Fosh said: “There was a great deal of interest leading up to the sale of what was an iconic club in Newport.”

“There’s little doubt TJ’s was an iconic and well-known rock venue, attracting some major bands especially in the 90s”

It has been bought by Ozzeer Hassan and his father Mehmood from Cardiff who want to convert the upstairs into flats and have a restaurant on the ground floor.

Mr Hassan said: “We want to preserve the TJ’s image.” Could this mark a new era for TJ’s? Post your comments below
