BandCentral: “changing the way artists take control of their careers”

BandCentral (www.bandcentral.com) officially launched today, offering bands a suite of essential tools that will enable them to take control of their music careers. With BandCentral artists, managers and labels can organise all the vital business aspects of band life – everything from tours and fan databases, to merchandise and money – enabling them to develop and sustain successful careers.

BandCentral is already being used by thousands of bands, labels and managers, worldwide and changing the way they work for the better.

Darren Hemmings, Digital Marketing Manager at PIAS, has said: “There’s real potential here for BandCentral to change the way artists take control of their careers, and I’m certainly keen to see how labels and artists get to grips with it.”

Danny Sperling, MMF member and manager of Mono Stereo, said: “BandCentral is a revelation to me. Instead of using half a dozen different programs and websites, I simply use just one that works for band, manager and all the key people involved in the inner mechanics of making things happen.”

What is BandCentral and what does it do?

  • BandCentral provides artists and labels with an online “BandHub” where they can organise and manage tours, fan lists, merchandise, finances and more, as well as communicate with all members of the band and entourage in one place.
  • Bands can track money coming in and out – from CD, merchandise or ticket sales for example – enabling them to keep on top of their finances in a simple and accessible way.
  • BandCentral users can also update their social networks, such as Twitter, Myspace and Facebook, automatically from within their BandHub.
  • BandCentral integrates with SoundCloud, allowing bands to share and comment on mixes or works-in-progress with everyone in their entourage.
  • Bands have complete control over privacy settings, enabling them to control who in their entourage has access to specific areas of their BandHub.
  • BandCentral offers both a free (ad-supported) and premium (£5.99 per month) service. The free service gives bands the basic tools they need to get started, while the premium service enables them to manage every aspect of their music careers online.

The BandCentral story

BandCentral was created by Wil Padley, digital creative and bass player in up-and-coming UK band The Domino State. With firsthand experience of life in a touring band (The Domino State have played extensively across Europe and supported Coldplay), Wil was aware of how difficult it was to keep organised in a professional and effective way while performing, writing and recording. He created BandCentral to solve this problem, working as CEO for the start-up alongside his role as a professional musician.

Wil said: “Right now it’s vital that musicians who want to make it have a grip on the business of running a band as much as the creative side of things. But even the most internet-savvy artists face a challenge when trying to keep track of all aspects of online and offline promotion, management and communication. BandCentral exists to be the one-stop shop for any band looking to take their career to the next level.”

BandCentral reaction

Darren Hemmings, Digital Marketing Manager at PIAS, has said: “BandCentral is solving a real problem in empowering bands with a centrally-managed organisational solution, offering the kind of modern, progressive approach we seen on consumer-facing services such as SoundCloud. There’s real potential here for BandCentral to change the way artists take control of their careers in that respect, and I’m certainly keen to see how labels and artists get to grips with it.”

Mike Smith, guitarist in hotly-tipped UK band Shakeys Brother, said: “BandCentral has enabled Shakeys Brother to become far more professional and productive, and also allows us to effectively market to a far wider audience than just our local area.”

Daniel Allman, guitarist in UK punk band Hold Your Fire!, said: “This is the first time we’ve had a tool as powerful as BandCentral, and it can’t be coincidence that it’s the first band that we all genuinely feel could make it. We’re organised, we’re prepared, and all we need now is a green light to go out and take on the world.”
